What a corridor is
Since 2016 the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) has designated Alternative Fuel Corridors: highways where states plan for drivers to find fuels like electricity, hydrogen and natural gas. States nominate roads in rounds, and FHWA approves them.
Ready vs. pending
For electric vehicles, a 'corridor-ready' segment already has enough public fast charging along it. A 'corridor-pending' segment doesn't yet, which is where new stations are most needed.
Why it matters
Corridors guide federal funding such as the NEVI program, so a site on or near a pending segment can be more attractive to grant programs and to drivers making long trips.
